I want to transfer colleges in the spring. My grades in one class are not as high as I would like. Can I not send my transcripts from my current college and start over? If I must, will this grade effect my new GPA? I need some answers, anything will help! Thanks!

You don't have to transfer your credits if you don't want to. Just attend the new college as if the old one didn't happen. Your old GPA will stay with the old school and will not affect your new one. If you're ok with starting over, that's ok but remember that you cannot use any of the courses from the old college to fulfil prerequisites at the new one, or they will want the transcript.

If you don't want to claim any of the credits from the old college, you don't have to send a transcript; there's no way the new college will know that you've already been to school. If you do send you transcript to the new college, the grades (as a rule) will not affect your GPA at the new school. The hours you take will probably affect your standing (whether you qualify as a freshman, sophomore, etc) but most colleges won't average in grades from any school except their own.

Not all schools do this for you. Some do, some don't. It is better to be sure and do it yourself, or at the very least go to the Registrar's office to fill out the request for transcripts forms yourself. Many colleges and universities will allow you a grace-period to acquire them, but it is usually only one semester. You should do it right away while it is on your mind, since some schools will not allow you to register the following semester without them, after your grace-period has expired.

Some schools average your old grades in with your grades from their institutions, while others will only give you credit for having taken coursework elsewhere. It varies by insitution.

What you really need to do is get a copy of your college's catalog and review these items. That way, there is no doubt in your mind.

We can't answer if it matters or not, but you know who can - the university where you are trying to get in. Call up the admissions, and tell them your situation, and ask them what to do next. They might say: * send us the official transcript - the old university might have gotten something mis-typed * the old university stuff is fine, you don't need to do anything or * it's too late, you can't do anything, you missed the deadline But it is always better to know now what is going on, and maybe have a chance to fix it, rather than just hoping things work out. Call them up today if you really want to go to the new university.

You can not send transcripts if you plan on retaking all classes taken to date. Depending on the schools and if they are Private or Public, your GPA may just start over at the new school. Additionally some schools allow you to retake a course to up the GPA.

You need to send the current transcript and take your chances.

If it's any consolation, most schools don't factor in transfer credit when calculating your GPA.

Yes, you have to send them. First of all, colleges require it to be admitted. Secondly, do you really want to repeat every course you've ever taken in college? College is expensive.
