It is believed in Egyptian culture cats were the guardians and keepers of souls and would carry them to the underworld, and in Wiccan culture the cat is usually taken as a familiar for it's enhanced abilities to see into the spiritual realm. If you think about it, there are ghosts everywhere, I mean the world has been around for a while, so many people have come and gone. Your house is probably filled with a good number of ghost. Not that you have to be afraid of that. Most of them are just hanging out, probably playing your Nintendo or sneaking a cookie when your not looking. It's very unlikely that you have a ghost that is ill tempered or even has the ability to do anything about it. Ghost are able to appear in your world through people's belief in them. If a ghost's story and name are known far and wide well, they can do some pretty scary stuff, but if it was your great great aunt, well most likely she's just bidding her time until she feels ready to move on. Of course you could not believe ghost exist at all, in which case, to you they wouldn't, get it? I believe your cat probably was distracted by some floating dust ball, lint, or a fly if you didn't see anything with it. Maybe you've got a secret admirer from beyond the grave....maybe not.

A little bug, a spider, a shadow or dust motes in the air will make a cat do that. Some cats are very afraid of particles floating in the air - we had one that was absolutely terrified of a vitamin powder that we put on his food. As soon as he breathed on it and it floated up, he panicked and wouldn't come back into the room. Check the spot carefully and see what he might have seen.

May be just a simple explanation. That spot may have a small insect which bit him when he kept going back. As the saying goes "curiousity kills the cat". If we poke our nose into others business too often. We may not want to go back after being bitten.

There are probably a thousand better explanations than a ghost. If there was a ghost that your cat could see I wouldn't think it would stay in the house.

I don't know if you have a ghost or not, it will be interesting to see what your cat does tonight. Perhaps he could see his own shadow or reflection somewhere - this freaks my dog out sometimes.

if it's a ghost just let it be the cat will eventually figure it out that if it doesn't bother you it won't bother the cat
