I think it's for the exact same reason you wrote here. They don't really have a clue to what is the answers to some (or most) of the questions posted here but they still want the points anyway.
Some people see the points accumulation thing as a sign of wisdom/power/glamour, who knows. But to those who are genuine, knowing that you've helped enrich other peoples lives (even though yours is like shitty sometimes) may be one of the reasons they keep on doing this.

You know that answer by KrazyRedd was coming.
Some people just want the 2 points instead of
actually giving a real answer... Some people are
actually taking the time to give real answers to
real questions, while others are like... Duh...
That is probably how they are in real life.

Well, I guess some people really do care about the points, and others I suppose are here just to help people but I don't you will get much response from them. Which puts me on the side that wants points, huh? Oh well...

I agree, answers should be either constructive and helpful or at least funny.
Answers like “I don't know” and "who cares" show a lack of knowledge, culture and imagination

I agree, it is annoying. If it bothers you that much, those answers can be reported as point-gaming, or as "not a question or answer".

Simple--they want the points and you get points simply by typing ANYTHING in the space and hitting Enter. Plus, it pisses people like you off, so they enjoy it. ;)
