In my experience the best weather for outdoor activities and the beach is in the summertime. Unfortunately, everyone else thinks so too and the prices at hotels reflect it. September and October are nice weather if you aren't dying to swim for hours on end, but there is always a chance it may be a little too cool for the beach.
San Diego is an amazing place and no matter what time of year, what type of weather, there is always something fun to do.
Enjoy!

Beach weather is late June to mid September. However, SD is nice to visit all year long. It does rain sometimes and when it does, just like in the song, it pours. It'll rain for 2 or 3 days straight sometimes. We're supposed to get another El Nino, so who knows. Last time we had an El Nino it rained for 3 months! Anytime from May to end of October you're pretty much guaranteed good weather. May and June will have a lot of morning fog (May Gray and June Gloom), but it's not usually rainy - it's just a fact of living on the ocean and it usually burns off by noon - at least inland it does. It's not a bad thing either, because if you're sight seeing, it'll stay much cooler....and you just go to the beach in the afternoon. If you want morning to night sunshine and hot weather you should come in late July through early September.

It's pretty nice here all the time. It really all depends on what you want to do. Outdoor stuff is usually best in late summer to fall and then again in late winter and early spring. In winter it might rain, and in summer it's too hot for things outside of the beach. We get most of our rainfall in January/December and March. In the eastern part of the county where there's the mountains and the dessert, it gets past 100 degrees pretty regularly after May and until mid September. It is a good time for the beach, though, because usually the water is warm and it's 20-30 degrees cooler than 5 mi inland. Hope you enjoy your visit.

September and early October are really good times to come. Its still nice and warm, in fact with the Santa Anna winds it can really be hot, but there's no rain. A great time to go to the beach because most of the tourists are gone and the students are in school! October is founders month or whatever they call it at the San Diego Zoo, so kids (under 12 or so) get in free.

One of the best things about San Diego is that it is a year-round destination. The weather is mild. During the winter it is warmer in San Diego than most places. During the summer it is cooler than most places in California.
The weather is not so mild as you travel east where summers can be pretty hot.
There are less crowds during fall, winter, and spring. But if you want to lounge around on a sunny beach...summer is the best time to visit.

Depends. Late April to June is a good time because it isnt too warm and the beaches, sea world, and the zoo arent too packed yet.
If you dont care about going in the water, then the fall would be perfect.

The Pacific Ocean is usually cold, but people wear shorts in Southern California in the winter time. It's not super nice every day, but most days it is mild.
