Well, obviously a lot of things that are obvious to you are not obvious to some other people.

Because nowadays many people are either unwilling, unable, or just too lazy, to think how and where to look up the answers for themselves.
There are so many good facilities online, encyclopaedias/search engines/etc, but it is satisfying to be able to help others either with a direct response if a fact I know is helpful towards answering a question, or pointing the asker toward some (hopefully) useful resource.

They are reconfirming the facts. If you ask 'Is Pluto a planet?' The obvious answer would be yes as it has been for years. Then again things change.

Especially when most of the questions can be found doing a search on-line, or even other similar questions right here on Answers. Don't know.

Because they are bored or lonely and want to entertain themselves passing the time by asking useless questions just to see who will take the time out of their day to answer them...
uh....oops I just answered you. I guess I should be scrubbing my bathroom tile or something...
