In some states you have to submit forms to a judge, have a hearing, place notices in two newspapers for creditors to read, etc., in other states all you gotta do is tell the social security office and make sure that you alert all of your creditors, that's it. So, you will have to check with your local court house for the answer. I want mine changed but i'm not paying three to four hundred bucks for someone to tell me i can have a different name, lol, that's just rediculous. Oh, i get upset every time i think about it....argh

It is much easier than you might think. Go to your local county Hall of Justice, and ask where to apply for a name change. They will direct you to the proper area, and depending on your county's rules, it could be effective immediately, whenever you want to start! You may have to pay a small processing fee, but for the most part, it's that easy, as long as you don't have any felonies or anything! Best of luck to you!

You can change your name it's fairly easy, you do have to go in front of a judge/commissioner though and maybe pay a few hundred in court fees, at least that's the way it is here in San Diego, I work for the courts. We do it from Civil Court. It costs a fee of $300.
