First of all, I am congratulating you for your efforts to stop smoking. That means you are a person of great will power, determination, and hope. But bad news is : The effects of smoking is almost irreversible. The best action right now is prevention of further darkening.

The cooled cucumber could only reduce puffiness. Cold temperature will restrict blood flow to the area, and therefore minimize swelling. We want to promote good circulation to the area. Try to massage the under eye catiously. Do not irritate the are. The undereye has a very sensitive thin skin.

Concealers could only provide temporary "masking," and only hides the problem. There are cosmetic surgery available to re-structure it, but I do not feel it's the best solution. "Healing" must start inside the body. Sufficient hydration, and adequate sleep will certainly prevent further darkening. Diet must also be supplemented with vitamin A, C, and E. (Note: Vitamin A, when taken in excessive amounts can be poisonous. Never go over the recommended dosage. Vitamin A and E are fat-soluble, so it is taken after a meal with healthy dietary oils, such as olive, canola, . . .)

Continue to avoid smoking. You are benefiting not only your undereye, but the your whole body will thank you for it! Again, congratulations!

drink water.. lots of water. It cleanses you and you may go to a health store and ask about vitamins to help that.

Water cleanses your body and is so important for wrinkles and stuff. Also to cleanse out the toxins still in you from all the years of smoking.

Drink room temperature water and about 8 cups or 1/2 to 3/4 of a gallon.. don't drink more than a gallon a day.

My daughter gets dark circles under her eyes when she consumes a lot of milk and milk products. I've been told it shows that she is somewhat alergic or intollerant. I don't know if it helps you much but it's i thought. :)
