I think those that ponder the question of true friendship crave authenticity in their relationships which can be difficult to find. People that have tons of "friends" around them are usually happy with the social context of friendship. I've had false friends and a couple of true friends. The funny thing is that having a true friend does not mean that person will always be in your life, but when they are, they will make a difference. Do you think that it is hard to BE a true friend?

I thought I did... but apparently it was only one way direction...
We were friends since kindergarden and suddenly she disappeared of the radar... after 15 years of (what I thought as true) friendship...
So now I'm a bit more carefull in calling someone a true friend - time will tell about the ones I put on my 'maybe list'...

OR let me rephrase: I found a true friend, but I lost her...

my husband is my truest friend. but as far as my girl friends, no, i have not found a true friend. my oldest friend i have been friends with since we were in 1st grade. (i'm 29 yrs old now) and even though we've been through alot together, she has not been there for some pivotal or hard times in my life. she's rather flakey. throughout my life, i have had many "friends" whom i thought were true, come and go.
