Lactic acid is the byproduct of a muscle working. It is generated by the body when the muscles work. it is not used in food and is not a flavoring. the effects on the body are: when your body is accustomed to working and you stop--you get sore. this is because the muscles continue to produce lactic acid for a period of time. it is sticky and causes the muscles to stick together, causing soreness. it is not harmfull or dangerous to the body. It's just the way the body works, it's not good or bad--it just is.
the way I would explain lactic acid is like when you burn wood in the fireplace-you get ashes. lactic acid is the bodies equivalent of ashes. as the body disposes of the lactic acid the soreness goes away.

lactic acid is the acid naturally found in milk and milk products. I didn't know it was used as flavoring.
