The slope of any straight line is constant; it's the same between *any* two points on the line. So, all you need is two points, any two points, plus the formula for calculating a slope, which is rise over run.
m = ( y2 - y1 ) / (x2 - x1)
for (0, .5) and (2,5)
x1=0, y1=.5, x2=2, y2=5
therefore
m = (5-.5)/(2-0) = 4.5/2 = 2.25
It doesn't matter which point you call #1 or #2, you'll get the same answer (try it).
As a check, a positive (m>0) slope is like this: /
and a negative (m<0) slope is like this: \
There are two "special" circumstances to remember -- a vertical line (like this: | ) has NO SLOPE (it is "undefined"). And a flat horizontal line (like this: - ) has a slope of 0.

use the slope formula: (y1-y2)/(x1-x2). This gives you (5-0.5)/(2-0), which equals (4.5)/(2), so your slope would be 2.25. Remember that you could put any of the two points as (x1,y1) and the other as (x2,y2), and you'd get the same answer, as long as x1 is below y1 and x2 is below y2.

therefore
you take the second y and subtract the first y from it
5-.5 = 4.5
then you take the second x and subtract the first x from it
2-0 = 2
then you divide your new y value by your new x value to find m which is slope
4.5/2
and simplify
