I agree with you, I always take out my earrings before I go to bed, Have you ever laid your head down and poked yourself. I always think about newborns with earrings, the way you hold them, you could push the earring and poke them, if they get an earache and start pulling at their ears, they could rip them, I think when they get alittle older, it's okay then.

You are her mother and until she is 18 YOU will be making the decisions for her. If you think she should wait.... by all means WAIT! Mother in laws and Mothers are great to go to when you need advice and you should be thankful that they are involved in your daughter's life. However, sometimes they tend to give advice on EVERYTHING! Don't make a big deal about it and just do what YOU think is the right thing.
I just read some of the answers and the one below mine is soooooooo dumb. He just said "WOMEN" have pierced ears... he forgot we were talking about a newborn!
Has the whole world gone crazy... the next one down thinks that children have the right to decide what to do with their body! Evidently a child answered this and has no children of her own!

If it is causing a major rift then let her have her way. You are not going to be able to control things forever, and your daughter will not suffer from having her ears pierced. In fact it seems like an inevitability these days. In fact I can't remember the last time I saw a woman who had not had them pierced.

Def. Wait till she is old enough! My mom waited till I Was old enough and it is good because then you can decide if you really want your ears pierced or not. My friend is glad her mom waited because she doesn't want to wear earrings. Also it teaches responsibility because you have to keep them clean and everything. I also think that it is mean to pierce a babys ear. You are hurting them just so they can look cuter. So please wait!
oh, and it would be morre work for you because then you have to keep the baby's ears clean and make sure they don't get infected

It's a good choice. My mom had me pierce my ears when I was 10 or so, I didn't want to and I've had the holes close back up [not wearing earrings] because I didn't care for it and still don't.

This isn't your MIL's decision. It's yours. If she wants to go pierce a newborn's ears, she can have her own baby.

I don't see any reason not to wait,Letting her make the choice of what to do with her body is a good idea.Just be prepared for her to not want to until she isn't afraid of it and don't get mad if she isn't ready when you are.

This is of course your decision to wait, not anyone else's.....there is nothing wrong with listening to some advice and making an educated decision.

GOOD FOR YOU!!!! I think you have made a very wise choice. Never let anyone talk you into something you don't want to do, especially when it comes to your child. YOU are that child's parent...NOT the grandmother!
