I think is they feel that they need recognition for there caring and concern es for other people. Now this does not mean that they know eachother, it just they know that if they did know them personally, there would be more of a commitment. LOL

"Gosh ralph w, all of us do it for one reason or another. Frankly, my emotions worked against me when I was young. Now, the old brain and heart are pretty well equalized and I'm thankful. I've grown to enjoy my feelings so long as I can use my head too.
I just finished watching "The Green Mile" on TV. It really pulled at my emotions, and because of that fact, I would like to see more of that director's pictures in the future.
I've gotta admit the Steve Irwin guy was a fantastic man. I'm sorry to see him go."

maybe they don't actually care about the particular issue, but any chance to cry helps release issues that are actually important to them. E.g this may sound very selfish of me but I went to a funeral the other day of a chap who was a friend of a friend, and I didn't really know him but I wanted to go to the funeral. I wasn't doing anyone any harm and I had a good cry which helped to release some pressure in me. If you understand that..

Empathy is a good thing-it can help you rise above your negative thoughts and feelings for someone or something, thereby freeing your psyche of negativity and self-destructive behaviors- wish I could empathize more than I do, as I'd be a better person for it.

Yeah meanie... Seriously though, I don't know why, I think it's weird too. Maybe they just feel sorry for them. You have to feel bad for the guy's family.

She may have not liked him but that don't mean she wanted something bad to happen to him. Its still sad when someone dies or gets hurt whether you like them or not!

Hi, its empathy, you' re trying to put yourself on the side of his love ones.. and odd it is, we can sometimes feel like we are connected to each other that we sometimes feel what they feel.
