The Ethic of reciprocity, (The Golden Rule) is a general philosophical principle of most philosophies and religions. Some common codifications are:
"What you do not want others to do to you, do not do to others" (Confucius)
"What is hateful to you, do not to your fellow man" (Hillel)
"Do unto others as you would have others do unto you" (Jesus) Yes I think they did, that is why they formed a union. Peace.
