It took 2 secs to reach max height so initial v was 20 m/s. Max range is when gun is at 45 degrees to horizontal. so vertical component of velocity is 20 sin 45=14.142 m/s so it will take 1.41 secs to reach max height so it will be in the air 2.82 secs before it hits ground. Meanwhile it is moving forward at 20 cos 45 m/s steady speed =14.142 m/s so it will have travelled 14.142 m/s times 2.82 secs= 40 metres range.
