I've noticed that a lot of people on here take a "we must go to war instead of sitting down and talking it out with other governments" kind of stance. Hatred begats hatred, in my opinion, but I want to know the logic of those who believe war is the answer to our problems. (for real; I want to know if I am thinking about this in the wrong way so I can fix it. Or if I'm not, I want to know that too)

How can you converse with people about peace who have been waring for centuries?
How can diplomacy work with a people who think nothing of taking a retarded kid, strapping explosives to them and sending them into a crowed restaurant full of innocent people?
How can you talk logic with a people/civilization that reached their peak in the 14th century and has been on a downward spiral ever since?

I'm definitely no fan of violence, I always try to avoid conflicts in my day to day life, but sometimes it becomes unavoidable. It's nice to be able to talk to reasonable people and convince them to do right, but some people are not reasonable. I'm sure you have met a few thick-skulled idiots before. Not everyone is like you and me. Some people don't take advice well. They only respond to violence.
If a murderer were to break into my house in the middle of the night and try to harm my family, the first thing I'm going to do is grab my gun and shoot him. In the Middle East, it's part of their culture to respect power. If we show weakness by backing down and pulling out, like the Democrats proposed, it only emboldens the enemy. Terrorists watch the news and listen to our senators and congressmen talk about re-deployment (surrender). They know what activities in Baghdad cause a reaction in Washington. If we want to defeat the enemy once and for all, we have to go for the jugular. You don't wear kid gloves when you are fighting for something that is so important for world peace. The only path to peace is victory.

I agree with you. War is a very western idea. We think violence is a way to solve problems, but I want to know when it ever did in a way that wasn't heartbreaking. Sitting down and talking things out may take longer, but it saves millions of lives in the long run.

We have talked and talked and talked. Talking means nothing if the other side doesn't want peace. Lets please not be naive.
Europe talked and talked with Hitler, what happened. Thats what we are dealing with now.
I want peace and love too. But the Muslims want to kill us or make us practice Islam!
Wake up and smell the coffee!
