what does average speed and constant speed mean in physical science?

average speed is the distance divided by the time. what this takes into account for is lets say that you are driving a car and you press the accelerator your speed is always changing as you speed up. if you speed up for 5 seconds and moved a total of 150 feet then your average speed would be 30 ft/s. you can find the average speed ove any two points of time and it could be different.

constant speed means that an object is travelling at the same speed throughout. take for instance our car example. if we were to drive our car at exactly 50 mph then start an experiment and continue to drive our car at 50 mph no matter what then we have constant speed. in otherwords the speed at any point of the experiment is equal.

If you are calculating average speed then you will have several different speeds to calculate eg: 55 mph, 25 mph, 65 mph and 45 mph - the average speed would be total divided by the number of variable speeds (in this case, 4) 190/4 the answer is the average speed. A constant speed is simply one variable or speed.

Average speed is the speed over a distance, it includes slowing down ,when going though a town and speeding on the open road ,stopping at lights ETC... Obviousely if on a long distance along an open highway ,the average speed is going to be higher over the same time frame

average speed is when you take the different speeds you have and literally average them all together. like if you had 10 mph, 30 mph, and 50 mph, your average speed would be 30 mph.

If your constant speed was constant it would equal your average speed.
