I stopped having my period when I was 49. Then when I turned 50 I started spotting on and off. I went to the doctor and he did a pap test and said there was nothing wrong. Now I'm 51. Again about 8 months ago, I started spotting again, but for longer periods of time. I went to the doctor again and he did a pap test and put me on hormone treatment for 1 week. No change. Now I'm spotting nearly 25 days out of the month. Anyone have this problem before? I'm tired of going to the doctor and hearing the same thing, "there's nothing wrong".

GO BACK TO YOUR DOCTOR. YOU HAVE TO DO IT.
Wacky, you obviously aren't a doctor. You are giving bad advice to someone who could have uterine cancer, who needs at least an ultrasound, if not a biopsy.

If it was just occassional spotting, I would say it was fairly normal for a few years after menopause. But, 25 days out of the month? NOT normal. There are some things a pap smear can't show- high in the uterus, ovaries, etc. Go get a second opinion or discuss with your doctor/gyn again and reinforce how worried you are about this and that you would really like to have some further testing done.

Spotting is normal during/after menopause. Taking hormones will cause spotting.

Short story: My mother, at that time 75, was told she had osteoporosis, they prescribe hormones. She was spotting most days. Can you imagine being 75 and having to wear pads!! I finally her talked into dropping the hormones.

Don't worry about it, you will stop spotting.

Next comes trouble with leaking pee :)

you definitely need a second opinion, maybe an abdominal and pelvic ultrasound. Post menopausal bleeding should always be evaluated at a level more than pap smears only good luck

25 days a month!you poor thing! i was also told for many years this was "normal" we are not stupid we know it is NOT normal!!! i finally found a doctor who listened to all the problems i talked about. his response was-"you need a hysterectomy" and he was so right!!!! the pathologist report showed that i had a severe case of endometrreosis and bleeding cysts. you have to find a dr. who will listen to you. best of luck to you!!!
