technically, if her hymen is already mostly torn somehow (non-sexual) & he may not know anyway.. or would that make it worse or create false expectations (keep in mind it's only a friend from uni that's not all that experienced really) what if she just doesn't want to make a big deal out of it? why or why not?

I didn't tell and the guy felt all guilty. He said he would have been gentler (he was just fine). I think it made him feel responsible for me somehow.

These guys that answer with "I'd be more gentle" are so full of it. I mean it's a woman not a china doll. You shouldn't be any different with a virgin as with a non-virgin, you should always be gentle. Lack of an intact hymen does not have any indication of wether or not a girl is still a virgin, a lot of them can tear through playing sports, riding horses, using tampons, etc. Some thick hyman have to be cut by a Dr.
I feel a girl should tell the guy she is a virgin, but I am more concerned that the girl use safe sex methods. I knew a girl that had sex unprotected her first time and ended up with gonorhea from the guy she slept with. She thought he loved her or so he said. After she was infected he told her sucks to be you and she never saw him again. Worse, it got around school and she was labeled a sluut.

Hymens are highly over rated, and more girls hymens break for reasons other than sex than do by actually having sex. Some girls are even born without hymens. I would rather the girl be totally honest with me and tell me she's never had sex but that her hymen is already broke. I'd believe it and honesty is the best policy. I don't like a girl who is shy or embarassed easily, or who skirts the truth, no matter what the subject. A girl who can be open and upfront really is the best.
