the general process of the scientific method where you state the problem, formulate a hypothesis, conduct an experiment, draw conclusions, etc. i have to argue for and against it - maybe why it doesn't apply to everything or limits creativity... or it is good because it gives us guidelines.

The scientific method, although applicable in many everyday problems, has major difficulties approaching subjects of religion, philosophy, and ethics.

For example, let's experiment with the scientific method: Gay family adoption. 1. hypothesis - gay family adoption doesn't work --Problem #1....define "doesn't work" ...The child will grow up with an identity crisis...That happens in any family - Control group would be what?? What's the perfect "Control Family"??

Example #2 - 1. hypothesis - God created the Earth and Humans. OK...evidence? the bible. control group? evidence of evolution? You cannot change belief systems with the scientific method.

Example #3 - 2. hypothesis - Is the scientific method useful to study, and solve problems with society? No, the scientific method is for areas that can be controlled. Such as laboratories or experiments in nature.

To use the scientific method on people isn't useful because the human element is too difficult to figure out....just yet, I guess they could keep trying.
