WHY SHOULD GUN OWNERS BE AFRAID OF GUN CONTROL IF THEY ARE NOT CRIMINALS???????
b/c the use of wiretapping can be applied to political enemies of the people in power--with grave implications for the democratic process.
WHICH IS WHY THE CONSTITUTION HAS PROTECTIONS AGAINST UNREASONABLE SEARCH AND SEIZURE!
THINK VERY HARD ABOUT WHAT YOU MIGHT BE SUPPORTING AND WHY. AMERICA COULD BECOME AN ACTUAL POLICE STATE JUST LIKE GERMANY DID BEFORE WW II
Germany was one of the most liberal democracies in the 1920s.
Hitler took over and did this same thing, looking pretty harmless to start with and by the time the ppl realized he was a monster, it wwas too late to speak up. Those who dared to speak "disappeared" (and were sent to prison camps)
Guantanamo, Cuba and all these secret prisons could become the places where the people who speak are sent from America.
You have much more to fear from your government on steroids than you do from some stupid terrorists! Wake up before its too late. You don't think Hitler can happen in America? Get a clue and get it fast!!

If you are a Republican, and the Democratic party, one day in the future, decides to start throwing people that voted in the Republican elections (voter records) into jails, so they can't vote, then go ahead and let someone have that power. Or vice-versa. There are so many reasons we shouldn't budge on any of our rights. We don't have anything to hide, but we are a capitalist nation, who wants all of our ideas that we share to be heard by anyone? We are in the information collection age right now. People ( a good psychologist) can tell almost everything about you just by reviewing your questions and answers. Everyone is collecting information about you. Why would you allow anyone to hear your conversations without a reason? When we started this nation, we were promised things, we can not sway from our agreement in any form or fashion.
You should not want this to happen, not because you have nothing to hide, but because it is your right. If you give on any of your rights, then we will be no different than any other nation.
Thousands and thousands of men and women have died for our rights, if you let them take one of them, that makes their death for our freedoms mean nothing. But that probably doesn't bother you either.

Because where does it end?
So you have nothing to hide while talking on the phone. But suddenly the government decides that listening in on phone calls isn't enough for security, so now they are going to bug homes. And then that isn't enough still, so now cameras are installed. . .
It is a slippery slope to step out on. Sure, if you have nothing to hide, all is well. But what if you say something to someone in passing, and the government suddenly decides that you are a criminal because you oppose what some high-up in the government is doing? Things can be used against you. They could do other things, too. You can't stop something once it has started.
People like you make me afraid of losing my rights. . . Nothing to hide will eventually become something. . .
Don't believe me? Read George Orwell's 1984 - it may enlighten you on what could happen if we allow wire tapping because we have nothing to hide.

It's AGAINST the constitution, enough said.
But also, I don't have anything to hide. But I don't want some CIA or some other secret service entity coming to get me because I called Bush an @$$, or something. When my boyfriend was going to Virginia for a trip I jokingly said kill Bush and do us all a favor, but make sure to get Cheney to. I then proceeded to say that killing Bush is not worth wasting my life over in jail or by the death penalty, so I'll opt out on that. But just because I made some joke I wouldn't put it past the "government" to take it seriously and send me to Syria and torture me!

I am sure everyone has something to hide, even if they don't admit it. The problem still persists that the government's power over the people should be limited, this is still a fundamental tenant of American law. Wire tapping on Americans opens the door for government officials to abuse, and frame someone who they have a personal grudge against.
It is people who consider themselves conservatives that say they are for this wire tapping only because it is conservatives that are in power right now. If it were liberals in power the same self-labeled conservatives would be fighting tooth and nail against it.

Have you ever heard of a celebrity complain about getting quoted and it being taken out of content? meaning that they can tear apart what you said & fit it to anothers personal gain. What you said can end up being something entirley different. I also wouldn't want anyone wiretapping me because if I wanted everyone to know what I was saying I would rather be the one announcing it publicly. I have nothing to hide or am ashamed of my beliefs or thought process, but I feel that I am entitled to my own opinion and when I want others to know that opinion. Taking away my right to privacy crosses the border line of respect to me, myself & I. You give that away, then they will continue on and take another freedom right away from you. What if your thoughts or opinions are not on the average spectrum? what happens then, are you singled out for it, condemed or riduculed? Oh it could be endless. We have a lot to worry about this because it could be the beginning of having the right to think or give an opinion taken away from us.

I have nothing to hide but very critical of the government, as that is what makes America unique. But my critism could turn into a demonstation and anyone, even a US citizen born in Texas, who works hard and pays taxes, could be considered a 'terrorist' or enemy of the government if we become too critical - remember the 60's? Remember they tracked everything Martin Luther King, Jr. did. His only "crime" was wanting civil rights for every American and they have a file on him so thick you have to ask, "why"? And King wasn't a Communist, and he wasn't a terrorist - he was a preacher! The US government only wants so many people to have certain power. If you aren't one of those people, then you are a target.

I think the major problems with this involve not only our right to privacy but a possible escalation of this behavior...what's next? This is how it started in Russia. For the good of the people some freedoms had to be compromised. Some of us have been alive long enough to remember these things. I have nothing to hide and I am a patriot, but I'm not sure how much of my privacy I am willing to surrender. This was a reasonable question. Peace.

It is not really a matter of having "nothing to hide." The issue involves hard won civil rights. These elemental rights have been afforded Americans by their Constitution. When these rights are withdrawn or rescinded, there is no way to know how or when the people will get them back. And without privacy rights your freedom of political expression can easily be transgressed upon (Government entities can keep records of dissenters - which are Democrats when the Republicans are in control and Republicans when the Democrats are in control.) Freedom of dissent is seminal to genuine democracy, and freedom of dissent is completely inconsistent with the loss of privacy rights.

Not a matter of having something to hide....
Simple privacy is what it is all about...
Do you have any idea what these terrorist have done to your country? You're building walls between countrys.... Just like in Germany...
You can not get on an airplane, without being damn near stripped...
You need to show a passport to get back into your own country...
Little by little your freedoms are being taken away... And now "they" want to tap your phone....
Whats next?
The fall of the most powerful country in the world?
What your goverenment doesn't understand is, If the terrorist want you, they will get you!!!!! Tapping your phone, showing a passport, putting a wall up between your country and Mexico, stripping at the airport, will NOT stop "them"...!!!!
