I'm a lyrics first person because I think that a good melody with bad lyrics set to it is just and empty shell. I mean, just look at Avril Lavigne. Great guitarist, bad lyricist. But what do I know? You be the judge.

Music first, if it can't grab my attention in the first 30 seconds or so chances are it's not going to be replayed on my radio.

Lyrics first.. Always.. I don't care how good the music or the beat is to a song, if the lyrics are meaningless I'll get bored with it really easily. I like music that actually means something to me & I can make a connection with... which is the main reason why I hate rap SO much. It's just pointless! Why should I care how many people you've slept with or how good you are @ shaking yer *** around??? The best songs always have some sort of meaning to me, or something that can help me with my life that I can connect with in some way.

Although, they can have the best lyrics in the world, but if the beat is off, it can mess the whole song up. If any one person in the band is off, they can throw everyone else off too...

I'm a music first person, since most of the time I do not really listen to the song, I just play something in the background while I do another, but my opinion is that if the lyrics are very good but the music bad it won't attract many listeners, as for lyrics persons they can read poetry, lastly, a good song is one with excellent music and good lyrics.

I am a music first person cuz I'm not even listening to the lyrics if the song has no melody. But in the end, if the lyrics suck, I'm not keeping it around no matter how good the hook is!

MUSIC first. I rarely listen to the lyrics until I've heard a song about 5 or 10 times. Exceptions to this rule are Sting, Peter Gabriel and Paul Simon, where I might start to listen to the words the 2nd or 3rd time, because I respect them so much.

Music. One would only hope that the lyrics possess a true feeling for the beat, the instruments. The lyrics always hold true to the writer for the music, but not to the listener.

I tend to be a music first person. I mean, wasn't music first written without lyrics? And besides, there's some music out there that no matter matter how hard you try, you can't understand the lyrics anyway.

The singer first. Many singers can't sing. For those bands that play good music and have horrible singers, just ditch the singer. You don't need a vocalist in a band. Terri Nunn should just sue Jessica Simpson for killing Take My Breath Away.
