Try connecting the laptop to that same router, but using a network cable. If that works, your wireless settings are incorrect (or maybe bad hardware).

Make sure the network settings are the same for the desktops and the laptop (other than wireless-related settings).

If this Netgear wifi router works with one desktop wired and one laptop wireless, then the most likely problem with the Vista laptop might be that it is too far from the router. The radio signal could be weakened by walls, floors etc. Bring it up next to the router and try again. If that is the problem then you may have to rethink where the router and computers can be set.

You absolutely have to be able to communicate with your modem. See if the configuration program for your modem will run the program that sets up the IP address (but don't change anything).

I found that I had to disable Yahoo! toolbar because it prevents popups. I had to disable firewall, and virus software.

That will tell you without a doubt the router is working.

If you can see your modem, then you should be able to get online. Especially if the other computers are working.

had the same problem til i figured out that the anti virus program i was using (PCcillin) was too aggressive with the firewalls...try disabling your firewall and anti virus program and see if you can connect...

if that's the problem, then you can just adjust settings til you find one that works.

if you have a firewall running you will need to tell it that you want this to be added to the exceptions list and it should work then :-)
