With an older Porsche it isn't terrible to start with the A/C on. Why would you not shut everything down before you turn the car off? Starting the vehicle is the toughest thing that you can do to your car on a regular basis. Turning off your A/C will make it less difficult to start. You can tell your B/F that he is not right, but he isn't wrong. I won't tell if, you don't tell. ;-)

Really bad is a little harsh, but let me explain. It takes energy to start your car. The more things that are turned in the car the more energy that is being drained from your battery. The car needs at least a certain number of revolutions to start the car. If all the energy is being drained eventually you won't have enough power to start your car. Understand?

yes it is it takes a lot of amps to turn the engine over when you use the radio especially the CD player or the ac it draws a lot of amps. the alternator does not start working until the car is running. the alternator charges the battery only when it is running. it relies on the battery to power every thing which will in the long run shorten the life of the battery

Lights will run down you're battery but the others shut down when the car is off but it is real hard on you're car it when you start it up.

Lights bad for battery and shorter life in the bulb

Radio are hard on you're fuses that can cause them to short out faster

A/C is hard on the motor of the fan

i wouldn't start it with the lights on,,but the radio and air don't hurt anything,,i leave mine on all the time, and i own a repair shop, and it don't hurt a thing,,but in bad weather if the cold temperature makes the battery a little low,,and it can drag it down a little, and make it hard to start,,but i haven't had any trouble out of mine as of yet,,watch now that i have said this i,ll go out and it wont start probably,,and make me look like a fool,,any way i think its up to you, what you leave on,,if it don't start ,then we know not to do it again don't we,,good luck ,i hope this help,s,

No. Systems are designed to shut down everything but headlights when starting a vehicle. Still not a good idea, though.

At least turn the a/c off. You're asking a lot of that battery.

Shelf life of the battery is curtailed. Not a good idea.

sort-of,no,sort-of. they all draw additional power from your battery before your engine is running.generaly except the radio its not good practice but not "really bad".

He is right. It can be harsh on the battery and each system.
