A US ton = 2,000 pounds
A metric tonne (or tonne) is 1,000 kilograms

Since 1 kg = 2.205 pounds, a metric tonne = 2,205 pounds.

A metric tonne is about 10% larger than a US ton.

There are two tons in US weights -- short ton = 2000 pounds and long ton = 2200 pounds. Let's assume short ton.

1 gram = 0.0022 pounds
or
1.00000 pound = 453.59237 grams

2000 pounds x 453.6 grams = 907,200 grams

long ton

2200 x 453.6 = 997,920 grams

One US Ton = 2240 lbs (some people might round to 2200 lbs)
One MT = 1000 kg = ~ 2205 pounds

So about the same in that sense.

A US ton is 2,000lbs...so if you want to do a conversion to grams, then have fun. I'm too tired to do that right now.
