Our friend Enlighten seems to equate Veterans Benefits with Welfare Benefits. Does anyone care to share the difference?
Anyone?

One is earned. The other isn't. If you can't tell the difference then you are probably a candidate for welfare. Granted we pay taxes and if one falls on hard times to lean on the system is not a crime, but it should not become a way of life. Part of the package when you become a soldier is guaranteed benefits. They already paid for the right by risking their lives for your freedom.

Boy that is a tough one huh?

Let me see the welfare is for people that need help that can not work. Maybe loss of a leg or what ever. And then there are the ones that don't want to work and are lazy and are just out to get a free ticket from the public.

Veterans benefits are for a job well done. Thank you for going to war and getting holes shot through your bodys and parts blown off so I can sleep in peace at night. This one is a thank you.

vETERAN'S benefits are for those who served this country and either have service connected disabilitities, or plain out have these benefits (education opportunities and preferances) becasue they damn well deserve it.

Welfare are for those who find excuses as to why they cant work, want to suck off the government tit, or just are plain lazy with no drive to make it happen.

If you ask me, it's pretty sad an actress for a sitcom could make 20,000 an episode yet a man or woman who risks their lives makes average pay. Veterans deserve anyting they have coming to them. YES, they should be first served. They served this country putting their life in danger. Someone has to do it. SO before anyone bitches about it, pick up an M16 and go try it for yourself.

Sorry but I'm to busy reading an article in Newsweek about how the Bush administration wants to cut veterans benefits by 30%.

veterans benefits are paid for in full by the people who receive and deserve them. We owe the veterans, and should willingly pay benefits to those who have risked their lives for our way of life.

And the same "we" are paying welfare benefits to people unwilling to work. And don't even go to the next point - i'm standing by with an example of a casino full of people off of work on "disability".spending freely.

I know what u mean and both are an embarrassment to the people. Especially for vets.. Those in government that deny good proper treatment deserved to our veterans that tried to serve regardless of governmental ineptitude have shamed themselves by their ever diminishing care and health treatment for military survivors... the pittance received by many Nam vets is atrocious

Veterans Benefits=people working to protect our freedoms receive benefits as a way for their country to say "Thanks".

Welfare Benefits=people sitting on their asses doing nothing benenficial for anyone, collecting benefits for themselves and their countless offspring.
