In 2006 China had a population of 1.3 billion and a total fertility rate of 1.73 children per woman, to sustain the population the total fertility rate needs to be 2.1. How do you calculate what the population will be in the year 2100?

There is missing information. How much of the population is female for one?How many of them are of child bearing years? Set it up to multiply the number of women of child bearing years times 1.73. Do this for each year and you will find out.
(1.73w)94 = x

it it too early to calculate the population more 100 years from this year because the current calculation method does not include the factor like Nuclear War, Bird Flu and etc..

However I agree India's population will surpass China after 20 years.

94(2.1x)=1300000000
x=6585612.969 <-- not sure what this is

6585612.969(1.73)=11393110.44

11393110.44(94)=1070852381 tot. population in 2100
