1972 as 11 Israeli athletes were murdered at the Munich Olympics.

It was during the 1972 Munich Olympics when a group of Palestinian guerrillas posing as athletes entered the athletes village and took a large number of the Israeli team hostage. A stand off ensued while their demands to Israel were being discussed. A deadline passed and true to their words they began to shoot one athlete at a time while continuing to demand that Israel free Palestinian prisoners. After more than eight athletes had been shot and their bodies thrown out of the windows or off the balconies in full view of the media the West German authorities decided to storm the buildings in which the guerrillas were. A shootout ensued resulting in more fatalities on all sides - hostages, hostage takers and German security.
Unfortunately today the story tends to change a little but the truth is that it wasn't a one day event. I'd recommend you google Leila Khalid (female hi-jacker) to learn a little more about the events before and after the Olympic tragedy. May the souls of all the innocent rest in peace - I was around eight when it happened and have been studying why and how it happened ever since.

Hey Malli,

I am with Brian! I was about the same age, at home, alone on a summer day when I couldn't find my favorite shows on TV. Everything was this thing about the Olympics.

Our Mail Carrier, Tony, came by to drop off the mail and he asked me what I was doing. I told him and he came into the house and watched the TV with me. He kept on shaking his head. He stayed for more than an hour and when he left, he asked me if I was going to be OK! I said sure.

I didn't understand what was happening at the time, but because of Tony's concern I understood the importance!

I have never forgotten that day or those that followed...

I hope I never do!
