Yes, all they had on the menu was Pepsi and Coke. I'm still not sure which one to pick.

Wow, I was reading some of these answers, and some of these people are very immature! Do you know how hard it is to be a waitress? I have been a waitress, and I know it is hard to please some people. Some of the people I have waited on have been pure a ssholes, and no matter how nice you are to them, they still are what they are. I'm not saying that all servers are great servers, because I have run into some bad ones. But I always leave a 15 percent tip for mediocre service, and more depending on how good the service is. I will, if the service is really bad, just leave a 10 percent tip. But I never stiff the server. Servers get paid 2 or 3 dollars an hour, so if you got some service, no matter how bad, the least you can do is leave a 10 percent tip! Otherwise, the server basically worked for free if you leave nothing, and that's why some of them get nasty when you don't leave anything.

At a Charlie Brown's restaurant in the Los Angeles area a few years ago, a waitress brought us our check for a table of four people. We pulled out our cash, each included our share of the tip, called the waitress over and told her that "everything is complete and thank you very much."
She returned to the table a little while later while we continued talking and asked "if you would not like to check the tip amount again because it doesn't seem to be the right amount for all the extra service I gave you." (The service was tolerable at best and certainly nothing to brag about, by the way..) She then left us alone for a few minutes to wait on other customers.
After the initial shock, we discussed this amongst ourselves, redistributed all the cash, removed our individual tips from each amount, reassembled it, called her over and said, "Now it is complete."
We promptly got up, left the restaurant and have never returned since!

No one has ever ran after me, but i still tip well after getting bad service.
I know as a server when i wasn't the best of servers and when I do not deserve a good tip so i say nothing to the person who left me a crappy tip.
but sometimes i bust my A** for people and they leave less than 10%.
anyway, if the server does a bad job they get a bad tip. Plus tips are not mandatory unless stated in the restaurant or on the menu so you are giving them what you feel they deserve. next time just tell her to f**k off and get the manager for her following you.... you can get her fired for that..... (well at most restaurants you can)

I definitely believe that servers should get the tip that they deserve. If the server did a really bad job, you should notify the manager. It would be interesting to see what your response it.
I have spent several years waiting tables, if I do not get a good tip and I know that I gave good service, it is because the customer is an idiot and doesn't know how to tip. If I don't get a good tip and I didn't give good service, then I take it as a sign that I need to improve my job. The restaurant that I managed, if I had a server complain to the table about the tip, the server would be fired on the spot. Not only that, I would have had to pay for the tables meal.
Servers shouldn't expect a good tip for mediocre service.

A bunch of friends and I were taken out to dinner by another one of our friends to a very ritzy place. The food was excellent, but the service was awful. Not only was our waiter never around, but he had a terrible attitude to boot. So when the check came (check was around $550) my friend left a $60 tip for the waiter. While we were waiting for the valet, the waiter had the nerve to come out and demand that he be left at least 20% of the check, which he said was customary. This waiter was so awful, he didn't even deserve the $60 in my opinion.

No, I have had shitty service, left a tip equal to their service but never had the waiter or waitress track me down outside for not leaving a bigger tip. I wish they would... I would give them a tip they would remember for the rest of their lives.

I'd be curious to learn what you did in response to that.
I usually sympathize with those who wait tables because it's a tough, low-paying job. But you're right in that they should get what they deserve. The rest of us don't have the luxury of bringing our personal problems to work, so why should you get bad service when you are spending your hard-earned money to try and have a good meal out? Especially when you've tried to be nice to them, as you've pointed out.
Your waitress is lucky she didn't say that to me and some of my friends.

Try this next time when you have bad service..
Take the tip and put it in your drink, Place your napkin over the glass, then turn it over and put it on the table, then pull the napkin out from under the glass, now the table is holding your drink in the glass with your tip, when they pick up the glas to get the tip, the joke's on them. =) lol

as a server, I believe you get what you deserve. I'm not saying that everyone tips accordingly, but if you give crappy service, you're going to get a crappy tip. that's all there is to it!
