The occasional mirror. Some like marbles or smooth pieces of glass. I've put a ping pong ball in my tanks. (Be sure what ever it is it doesn't have sharp edges. As your betta might lose a fin.) Many people buy freeze dried blood worms and hand feed their betta. Even teach them to jump for it.* Also they like to see things going on. Try moving them to a higher traffic room.
*Note after I had a betta jump out of a glass, into the sink, and then flop into the disposal durning a bowl cleaning. I don't encourage jumping. (He survived the minute it took to fish him out. btw)
PS- Note that poor water conditions, poor nutrition, and over feeding can result in a lethargic betts. Which can be mistaken for boredom.

Seriously?
Get him a mirror. Don't leave it by his tank all the time or he will "wise up" and quit playing with his little friend. Only put it out for him every couple of days and move it to different locations.
Get plants and some aquarium decor. Something he can swim through and around. Get pretty rocks. At Walmart right now, there are really pretty glass beads and thingies that mine absolutely loves.
Use your imagination. Anything waterproof and non-toxic is a potential play toy for him. I recently bought mine a "Littlest Petshop" seahorse. The betta flares and challenges and rams the thing. It's hilarious!! Really. The eye of the seahorse really offends my betta and he tries to eat it.
Cheers.
Oh, look here. www.bettysplendens.com. She has a wonderful stock shop. Amazing!!!

Fish are exotic pets by definition. You can not play with them, pet them, or otherwise enjoy anything but looking at them. Fish live very content lives. They do not need entertainment. They are happy all the time. The truth is you wish your fish was more entertaining. Bad news, fish are not entertaining pets. I own a 55 gallon freshwater trpoical tank. It has several fish. I do not keep them for entertainment purposes. I keep them becuase I like fish.
Hails to the truth,

I used to have bettas. I actually got one of those double little tanks and just bought two. Make sure they are separated though, you don't want them to kill each other. Believe it or not, they actually like you to pay attention to them. I placed mine on a bar area by the front door (I lived in an apartment), and whenever I got hope they swam like crazy like they were excited for me to get home. I also talked to them when I could and them seemed to like it. Just pay attention to your fish and they will feel loved. And don't listen to idiots who think fish don't know what the hell is up. Fish are living things too. Good Luck!

If you are talking about a Betta then get a mirror and put it beside his bowl once-in-awhile. He will flare his gills and shift from side to side. This is how they prepare to attack other males. Otherwise find a colorful female, now that should entertain him! :)

ditch the beta, get an oscar.
my oscar wakes me up a 6 30 am by splashing in the tank-so i can feed him. he starts splashing at 1 am to let me know its time to turn off his lights. He's been doing this for years now.

Try feeding it live blood worms (if you can get them. Or start hatching some live brine shrimp for him to hunt (the shrimp kits are fairly inexspensive)
