The price of gas is going down because the price of crude oil [the oil that is taken from the ground] goes down. There are several reasons that crude oil goes down, one is that production is up, [ meaning that we are pumping more oil out of the ground] or foreign oil suppliers are importing more oil to nations that need it, thereby reducing the demand, resulting in lower costs at the pump.

3 things in connection price gas at the pumps. The cost of oil futures, the cost to refine, and taxes in your state. Generally the taxes do not change. The cost to refine also does not change barring a natural disaster on one of the refineries, which we have not had this year. Finally the price of oil futures has the main effect on the pumps. Oil futures have topped and they are getting slammed (they are publicly traded like stocks) As oil futures go down, so will the prices at the pump.

it time for an election. Republican wanna keep there seat in power, and hope to make Americans happy by lowering gas prices. It really only makes it worse, cause all i can think of is why are we paying so much all this time for if they could have lowered the prices

Not sure, but what I want to know is when they're going to level out and STAY that way. I also want to know when they're going to be reasonably priced again.
I fail to understand why nobody is upset that they're still getting screwed at the price it's at.

Oil closed today at $61.66 - down more than two dollars from yesterday and down a whole lot from its all-time high. It's supposed to go lower in the next couple of weeks.

They want us to think "they are going down," but really they're still hella high. Before all this nonsense it was $1.99. Then it went to $3.00. Now it's at $2.60. And we are celebrating . . . they are playing games!
