3 * 3 * 3 * 3 * 3 = 9 * 3 * 9 = 81 * 3 = 243

Any number X taken to the Y power = X * X * up to the value of y.
On a computer 3 to the 5th power is represented by the housetop sign. So 3 to the 5th power = 3^5

2^2 = 2*2 = 4
2^3 = 2*2*2 = 4*2 = 8
2^4 = 2*2*2*2 = 4*4 (or 8*2) = 16
2^5 = 2*2*2*2*2 = 4*4*2 = 16*2 = 32
2^6 = 2*2*2*2*2*2 = 4*4*4 (or 32*2) = 64

Do you get the idea of how it works now?
