you need a wireless router so the card can pick up the internet connection. or if you don't have one try visiting places that offer free wifi internet access like mcdonalds or coffeebean and tea leaf.

You usually don't need to activate it.
But remember, you can not use a wireless card unless you have a wireless router hooked up to a modem so then you can have internet access. Unless you're going to be traveling then you just make sure you go to places that have wireless routers hooked up to their own modem (hotels, airplanes, coffee shops...ect.)

you need a wirless router attached to a modem? unless you mean its a celluar card?

they usually just pick up the signal u dont have to activate it.
