My boyfriend is allergic to wasps, hornets etc. Now, will the Doctors test my son for this type of allergy or do I just have to wait and find out the hard way?

I know most are allergic to insect bites, but, like my boyfriend, he swells up and has to go to the emergency room and have ice baths, Last time he got stung he was in the hospital for 3 days! He has to carry a around shot to give himself if he gets stung.

you have to go to an allergy specialist, but they won't test young kids (under 3 I think) without reason. Example, does your boyfriend have to carry an epi pen with him or does he just swell up a little at the sting site.

ok just saw your update, I asked my mom (an allergist doc) and she said that yes they will test if baby is over 1 yr, due to daddy's reaction to stings.

Yes, I think they can. I have a cousin that was tested for allergies and treated based on the specific causes. Her reactions were severe but she didn't know what was triggering them until she was tested. Since then, she's grown out of it. Unfortunately, an allergy to an insect bite isn't one that may go away over time. I would ask my physician as soon as possible, allergies can be dangerous and if you're not prepared, they can be fatal.

Just about everyone has a reaction to bug stings...but allergies are different. My father is allergic to bees and he could die from being stung by one. I am not sure what is the earliest age for allergy testing. I had mine done at 12yrs. I can tell you if you have never had it done...it hurts and really isn't a piece of cake (like that nurse told me it was...still bitter lol) I would advise talking to your child's doctor. He/she can refer you to an allergist and you can go from there. The funny thing about health care now days is you really need to ask your doctor for the things you want done. Rather than them telling you. At least in my experience. Good Luck

Just be very careful, and definately ask. My daughter has not yet been stung by anything, thank God, she's 4, but one time when she was an infant she almost died from an allergic reaction to penecillin, so, if you ever notice any kind of rach or any kind of swelling of any kind that you think might even be an allergic reaction to something, rush that baby to the hospital.

Yes, they can. I just saw these new cats on the news that don't have the allergen that makes most people allergic to them. When you want one, first they send you a test in the mail to make sure you are allergic to that specific allergen. So I imagine they can do the same thing for wasps etc.

You will have to wait and see, I don't have a problem with stings, my ex never had a problem with them but my ex mother inlaw is allergic...so is my daughter. There is no test other than finding out the first time.
