has never been outside of his third-world country. He is used to having electricity, telephone service, etc approximately 3 times a week for only a few hours at a time. Anyway he visited with another relative in NYC for 1 week when he first got to states. He then came to the Atlanta area to stay with us. The man knows EVERYTHING. He's a professional know it all. My last straw: He tells me that NYC is very safe and has almost no crime. OK NYC has cleaned up its act in many areas including crime but to go as far as to call it "very safe" and so on...I don't think so. I politely disagreed. He started to argue me down. I'm thinking...what would you know? You're illiterate, you can't use a PC/Internet and this is your first time anywhere other than your own impoverished village?! I don't know what I'm going to do. He and my S.O. are close and it's important to him that I like his best bud that’s also family. I may have to see this boorish know it all on a daily basis! Suggestions anyone?

Colleen O I said he is illiterate because he can't read and write not because he can't use a PC dumb azz. Also I've been to NYC and there is still plenty of crime going on there. I wonder why people come on here and give self-righteous, I'm so high and mighty "answers"? Is this the only place they can feel good about themselves? Are their lives that pathetic?

Im curious why u feel the need to debate with someone who in ur words is illiterate? Why would u bother??? and have u been to his third world country urself????? because perhaps its more dangerous there then here so in his mind what he sees here is nothing compared to where he lives.. so to u it seems like the crime rate would be horrible.. but to him it could be a walk in the park compared to what he's seen in his own country..

No one likes "Know it alls", but instead of engaging in a argument why dont u just shrug it off and walk away or excuse urself from the room instead of arguing about it.... I mean ur making urself look bad for arguing with someone that u say has a lower education level.. i mean would u argue with someone that was mentally disabled? no.. u'd blow it off.. so why are u arguing with someone that u see as ignorant to the ways of the world? but u have to remember, you have not walked a mile in his shoes either and although he may be illiterate.. it doesnt mean that he doesnt see things differently then u do from his own expirences in life.. some people are book smart.. others are street smart.. just depends on ur life... so keep that in mind before judging..

Well, actually I heard on the news tonight that New York is now the safest big city in the country. But I digress....
There is no reason you should have to agree with everything he says, but there is no reason you need to argue with everything either. I would just back off and try to be diplomatic without necessarily agreeing with him. Perhaps there is just a natural animosity between you two. Just learn to stay out of each others way, realize you probably won't agree on much, and go about your own business. If he continues to be a know it all with you, just tell him he is probably right, but you prefer your own view of things, and leave it at that.
The visit will be over with soon enough.
Good luck

Well sinc you don't live in New York City you have no clue as to how the crime rate is there. Not using a Pc/internet doesn't make one illiterate, however your own obvious intolerance and bigotry cause me to have doubts about your literacy.

YOu have top discuss this with your BF. YOu must let him know you find the guy offensive,m hurtful, etc and that is unacceptable to you. Say that you will tell him off unless the BF has a discussion with him about manners. If your BF makes you wrogn, dump him.

No, Dingel is my superb pal. She is purely too lots of a whore to be my companion. She is a huge kisser and has a intense high quality rack, yet no longer the form you prefer to declare as yours.

Let your S/O and his best friend hang out together without you. You don't have to be everywhere they are at.
