I quit cold turkey when I was 21 after smoking for 5 years a pack a day. I simple said I had had enough and that no matter how difficult or how strong the urge got, I would not give in, not a single cigarette. Do your very best to avoid drinking alcohol for at least a month or longer. You will have a real rough 2 weeks to start with. Over the next 6 months the craving let up but once I had a good dinner with a few drinks it was back again. Avoid putting yourself in those situations. It is a long process but gets easier in time. My mother used to chew on straws when she quit. I'm 34 now and do not crave cigarettes at all...it was will power and determination to keep my word. Also after about 6-12 months u are going to start to feel healthier, you'll have saved a lot of money. You will be so proud of yourself and so will your family. Even food tastes better. And then after a year, you will notice how nasty smokers really smell, their clothes their hair it's like smelling an ashtray
Well good luck and be strong, as bad as you will feel right after you quit just remember you are not going to die, and that it will get better and better over time....

Sure you can, I did 14 years ago, haven't touched one since. If I could, anyone can. How's this for a horror story: my Dad smoked cigarettes for 25 years, got lung cancer and when I was 28 he died a slow, painful death over about 2 years as the cancer invaded the rest of his body including his brain. Left 4 kids at home under the age of 21. Quite frankly, if you have kids or anyone else who depends on you, you're a selfish idiot to keep smoking. If you don't have anyone who depends on you and you smoke in this day and age, you're an idiot although possibly not selfish.

I smoked for many, many years....3 packs a day!! I tried alot of the stuff out there to quit but nothing worked for me. Then my daughter got pregnant and I knew if I wanted to be around that child, I had better kick the habit!! I quit cold turkey almost 4years ago!! I now can't stand to be near anyone smoking, I can't stand the smell on peoples clothes and breath. I hold my breath walking in a store or public bldg where people smoke "out side". If you want to be around for those you love, ask yourself which is more important to you. Can you hug a cigarette? Can a cigarette say "I Love You?" You choose. Good luck, I'm rooting for you and your children.

a little over 9 years ago i woke up one day and decided i didnt want to smoke any more. i tossed what ever cigs i had in the can and have not smoked a one since. nor have i had any desire to. yes, i can be around smokers and the only problem i have is if one of them puts smoke in my face, doesnt make me want one, makes me want more oxy. i live with a smoker and she is an RN. she knows the hazards. you know the hazards. it comes down to mind control. and quitting for your kids isnt going to do it. you have to quit for you. if you cant do it on your own, ask your doctor for help. they have many ways of helping besides just being encouraging. there are pills and patches and a host of other aids.

of course you can. look, people can quit smoking if they really want to. don't need those sort of stories to scare you. u just need your strenght to stop it. if u really want it for ur own good, why not?
u can start by reducing ur smoking cigarettes, then u can eat candy to replace ur smoking habits. brush teeth frequently and drink water. good luck.
