I'm not speaking against or for Bush, and although you may find what I have to say biased, that's ok, I have to ask this. Try not to end up insulting me or Bush or anything like that... just opinions on this matter as a country and people together.

A lot of people nowadays in the US tend to be nationalistic. Or patriotic. Is that bad or good? Is there a line between Nationalism, patriotism, and so called "blind patriotism"?

Is Patriotism healthy or unhealthy for America/Countries in general?

But isn't division of opinions good? Isn't the differences in opinion what is supposed to happen in a democracy?

I just think that polarization of those views is what isn't right. When people become so closed minded they think their side is always right.

Gizmo, I am, economically Socialist and I have a great love for this country too. Stereotyping or insulting a specific political belief without merit will not get you best answer.

Spit your disgusting links and conspiracy theories elsewhere. I didn't ask for your theories on such. I wanted to know your opinion on nationalism. How much more simple need I make it?!

Patriotism is good. It simply means you love your country and are willing to support and defend it.

Nationalism is dangerous. It means you believe your country and its culture are superior to others, and it tends to manifest itself in imposing one's government on others. Sort of like what we're doing in the middle east right now. Not good at all.

Our current administration and its flock of kool-aid drinkers is whipping the American people into a nationalistic frenzy (remember the Nazi party in 1930's Germany?). In the long run, it won't do any of us any good. Hitler sent his Panzers out to conquer the world, and left the "fatherland" virtually undefended. In the end, it got blown to smithereens and he lost the war. Sound currently familiar? Too bad politicians don't have to study world history before they can be elected.

It seems that the more nationalistic or patriotic the US public is the more of a chance we are going to start a war or finish one that someone started on the US of A. It really seems that there is a build up for a war with Iran at this minute. When the country starts following someone they don't like (George Bush) something bad could happen. The enemy of our enemy is our friend kind of thing. George Bush is not afraid to give the order so everyone is not blindly following him but hopping he will take the lead.

So it is healthy because we come together as one voice and would be bad for someone else. It builds jobs and gives the economy a big boost which is needed. And has been forceing us to find new ways to power our cars and planes. Power our homes and all. It makes us stop depending on the rest of the world which should make us stronger in the end.

Patriotism is always healthy in the context that it is simply a great love for your Country.
I do agree that Patriotism sometimes can take the form of discent. Our History is filled with examples of righteous indignation on behalf of the good of our Country.
That's what the Civil War was all about. There were people in the Northern States who were not about to allow this great Country to be taken over by In-Bred Slaveowners.
My issue today with those who say they are so called "Patriotic Discenters" is their general philosophy that America somehow deserved the trauma that has been brought upon her.
These folks are generally Socialist, Anti-Christ, Terrorist Sympathizers who are more concerned with what France and the UN thinks of us than defending our Country.
They seem to be under the impression that France and the UN have our best interest at heart....

It's good because it keeps the people active in the government and the way the countrys headed. It keeps the country strong. Without patriotisim people dont trust government so stuff starts falling apart.
