I agree with missy turquoise, purples, reds always get me compliaments. If you feel too much pressure to go along to one of those colour swatch counters, why not just go into the department store and pick out three dresses or tops in different colours try all three on and get a friend you trust to pick the best colour for you, those it's bestif you feel the same way, as it will give you a real confidence boost if you like what your are wearing.

It depends on finer details than just blonde or brunette. What color is your hair exactly? Warm brown? Cool brown? Black-brown? What is your skin tone? Pale and milky? Peachy and warm? Tan and olive-toned? What color are your eyes?

In the San Francisco area, the Nordstrom's at San Francisco Centre has a consultant that you can go to to "get your colors done", as they call it. She will sit down with you and show you what colors for makeup and clothes look best with your skin tone, hair and eyes. She'll show you what clothing styles work best for your coloring and body type. It's a free service, although they assume that you will buy at least something that she recommends. And while most stuff at Nordstrom's is crazy expensive, she may be able to help you find things that are within your budget. It's a lot of fun, so if you have a Nordstrom's near you, give them a call and see if they have a similar person on staff who can help you.

My best friend is a brunette and she plays with color alot. I think when the color contrasts with her hair. You should probably stick to colors of the seasons though. (Think Pale Yellows, Whites, or Light Blue for summer and for fall/winter - Maroon/Burgandy, Deep Greens and Deep Pinks)

Your question also depends on your skin color. If you skin is a warm color you are going to look best in warm colors, like brown, burgandy.

If you have more olive color skin which is more a cool color, you will look good in green.

Cool tones look good in blue.

But you can still pretty much wear other colors.

Everyone looks good in black, it gives a slimmer appearance.

To make something simple look nice try a fashionable belt.

This is a classic fashion trick, take fabric swatches in different colors. Go to a mirror and put them next to your hair, your skin your eyes. You can't please everybody, so if you think it looks good, then that's one of your colors!
