Who cares what it's ranked in the world? Since when is a sport's popularity a barometer of how fun it is?
To prove my point, 200 years ago, the most popular sports in the world were horse racing and catch as you can wrestling.

Baseball is probably second in the world to soccer, maybe third depending on how big hockey is in different countries. In the US, soccer doesn't even crack the top five in sports and hockey is probably fifth.

Soccer is definitely number one. Then basketball and baseball. I would have said golf but it's so expensive that few people can actually afford clubs.
