No it is NOT okay...it is illegal! Leave wild animals in the wild. Go adopt a needy animal at your local humane society.

Before you take that particular plunge, you should volunteer at a zoo. You will learn the realities of keeping wildlife in cages. Especially a ginormous carnivore that can eat your family. You will also make valuable contacts and find lots of resources that can help you with this particular endeavor.
Cheers
EDIT:
The person above me has a wonderful point. Domestic cats are being bred to look like their wild cousins. There are lots of them, look up Ocicat, Bengal, and Abyssinian. They are wonderful pets and you don't have to worry about the neighbors getting killed, always a plus. Ocicats are bred directly from wild cats, sometimes there are half and quarter blooded wild cats for adoption/sale at the breeders. Those might be of interest to you.
Best of both worlds, wild looking and acting, small and sort of tame.

Though it is true tigers are beautiful, and really cute as cubs, they are called "wild" for a reason. They have been run out of their natural habitat, and so there are places where experienced people take care of them. But even some of them have been attacked. It's not because the person is mean, it's because a wild animal will always have that instinct "in" them. It may or may not happen, but I personally wouldn't want to take the chance. It's up to you. Good luck.

There is no way anyone will allow anyone outside of a ZOO to have a pet or permit for one like that. You dont have that kind of money or experience to keep one unless you sneek one in to live with you until it got so big it killed you and anyone else coming into your house. Only ending up killed by authurities once it is discovered there. If you want a cat over sized go to the animal shelters and pick out the biggest one you can find then adopt it. Dont be stupid with your life or others and the cats.

Why would you want to keep a wild animal in captivity> Would it inflate your ego, make you feel like a really big and ppwerful person to do so? You share the same pathology as many "penis dog" owners ('pitt' bulls, rottweillers, etc).
If you really appreciate wildlife, leave it alone, get out if it's way, or go work at a zoo, or become a photographer for National Geographic Magazine.....

It's against the law.Suppose that you got permission and you are owning it.Then there will be problems in taking care of its health. You may face poroblems in maintaining its food.Your neighbours may force you to let it into the wild.....or may tell you to give it away to the forest department.Once domesticated and set free in the wild, they die of starvation as they do not know to hunt.Still you may face many many problems. My advice is DON"T HAVE WILD ANIMALS AS PETS!!!!

If you are able to get the permit, consider this: Tiny tiger is adorable. Two-hundred pound tiger who eats tons of raw meat a year, has to have a large tiger proof enclosed area, and one you can't physically control can be dangerous. Tigers don't deserve to be in a cage, they need to be either free, or in refuges that are prepared to handle them. Too mahy pet tigers wind up either dead or abandoned, or in refuges because their oeners couldn't care for them. Please don't get a tiger.

No. A tiger cannot be totallly domesticated and would be dangerous. Haven't you heard of Sigmund and Freud, the animal trainers that were attacked by their trained tiger? (Or it might have been Seigfried and Roy, I am not sure)
