Anything that gives you experience and can provide future networking connections should be taken very seriously. You might meet someone that would lead to an even better job after you graduate.

Definitely. Good work experience and you get a nice resume from your teacher. Then if you decide to go for another job, you've got that tucked away in your back pocket.
It shows that you're in demand and people want you. One of the hardest things in job-searching is getting people to want you or see that you have actual skills.
It's good practice for any other careers you pursue later on. Working at a newspaper also gives you great networking leads and contacts.

Why not? For a fresh graduate or even for a student you start getting your breaks with these small jobs. Through these you get experience, exposure and contacts. Just make sure your hours are paid fairly.

Take it
you enjoy writing
you are good at it
you won't have to look for a job
you will be making some money and it close to home
you will have a good future and opportunities
Now give me your reason for not taking it!

Are you interested in journalism, or majoring in communications? If yes, definitely - it can't hurt, even if you decide you don't like it!
If you're say, a math major...see if it pays well first!

You're definitely not a "speller". I guess take it if you think you should but don't forget to spell check what you write for the newspaper.

Yes, it's very hard to get those jobs and it's a good "springboard" for you.
This is a good sign.
