This is car terminology that i don't understand that is used in my physics homework.

I guess the answer would be that if the power applied overcomes the inertia of rest, the vehicle will go backwards. Whoever posed the question wasn't an automotive type. An automobile is not able to apply force rearward unless the vehicle is stopped. So if the car has "reverse thrust" it would have to go backwards. If they say otherwise they are full of sh!t.

I guess when you decelerate or stop your vehicle, you often feel a force pushing you forward, which could also appear to be the car moving backwards. From the inside of a vehicle, these two would give the same appearance; a person moving forward. This is due to inertia, the force that occurs when a moving object stops or slows down. It's energy will continue to go forward until matter or objects absorb the energy until the object stops moving.
