I was sad after hurricane Rita when it seemed that my hummingbirds were not going to come back. Finally, a year later they are showing up again. It is still very warm here in S. Louisiana. I don't recall seeing any in the coldest parts of the year though. So I guess they go further south.

We used to live in South TX and would see increased numbers of hummingbirds in the fall. I'm presuming they were headed south into Mexico where it was warm for the winter.

Miami Beach Florida, they love it there. They all go to one big trailer park and live a there for the whole winter.

The hop a Canada goose and go South. Seriously, I wish I knew. I have heard they go as far as South America.

hummingbirds simply die in winter and are mysteriously reborn (reincarnated?) from cigar ashes.
