Hey! I need to start on writing a paper. I need to write a persuasive essay. The thing is, I can't come up with a controversial topic. When I pick a topic the teacher will ask me "What are you going to persuade me?" So everyone, please give me some ideas for a controversial topic. Thank you all!

The Iraq war is the most important topic in our lifetime as of right now. I would do that.

1. Many schools in Kentucky have changed their school calendar so that they are now year-round schools. They still have time off in the summer, but they don’t have the traditional 3-month break. Some Illinois schools are considering following in Kentucky’s footsteps and making the switch to year-round. Write a persuasive essay either in support of the year-round school calendar or in support of continuing the traditional school calendar.
2. Life, when does it start? Does it start when you are a fetus, when you start to develop a heart, emerge from within the mother womb, or is it now?
3. Should the US force democracy on other nations?
4. Is the cloning of humans ethical?
5. Should the electoral college be replaced with the popular vote system?

Having recently been in your situation, I know what you are going through. Of course you can write about all the usual controversial stuff such as abortion, capital punishment, war in Iraq, etc. but it may get boring. I made a list of controversial topics that interested me which included cryogenics, stem cell research, cloning, nuclear warfare, gay marriages, legalization of marijuana and the pope's recent statements that caused quite a stir are just a few. Hope you can find something that will interest you.

Try to persuade your teacher either not drink from canned refreshments or clean their tops before drinking. Why? It many warehouses that produce and distribute soda cans there are often infestations of rats; unfortunately, these rats urinate on exposed cans. Consequently, the rat urine contains a bacterium known as leptospirosis. Leptospirosis is considered rare, but it can de quite deadly for there numerous cases reported each year. In fact, the tops of soda can are often more proned to bacteria than public toilets.

Hope this helps.

How about the legal age for alcohol consumption? We all know that minors drink anyway. Or, what about how our country will soon be communist, with the way things are going. Hell, if you are really persuasive try to convince her to open the border between the U.S.A. and Mexico. Controversial topics are endless!!!

well, you could argue that gay students need to be identified and taught by gay teachers, that way they have a better chance of getting an education.

sure, that would be a big contraversy, as I think you wanted, and you might find evidence that could suggest such to be true. Religious beliefs affect education, and when the teacher matches the student by religion, they learn better, other research shows genders learn better from teachers of the same gender. so in theory, you could put up a good argument. Play the villian. They hate seeing that research could show segregation as a good thing.

(not saying I agree with doing any of those things, nor am I a fan of the studies, except the religion one that I helped work on)

Stem cell research. That is really controversial. Not many people know the opinions of both sides of the fence, especially how our president is against it and he performed his first veto in his entire presidency because of it. He vetoed a bill to stop funding for stem cell research.
