because the sound intensity is proportional to 4pi*radius^2 of a spehere, so as the radius increase, the sound intensity drops off by a factor of radius squared.

Picture this: As bad as the Tsunami was the energy of a wave was less once it travelled the distance from origination point to any given shore. We have all agreed that sound travels in the form of vibration waves - and these are dissipated in the atmosphere as they travel and eventually become mute.

in addition to the dilution, the sound waves eventually lose their intensity because of friction. The sound wave is gradually converted into heat as the energy moves from from one molecule of air to the next, and the heat disperses. Eventually, all of the sound energy is converted into heat (but not enough to cause a detectable increase in the temperature of the air)

Because, in a sense, it is dying. It grows weaker because it expands and the sound has to dissapate over a bigger area.

Because the energy contained by the sound wave is spreading out more and more and, therefore, diluting itself.

not only becuase it spreads out as it travels, much as light, but it experiences certain amounts of friction, so to speak, as energy is lost as it transfers from one part of the air to another, its also why differnet moistures in the air carry sound differently.

It is called Doppler's effect. Read about that in books or on the net
