Distribute the 4:

6x + 12x -8 = 6x + 2

Add like terms:

18x -8 = 6x + 2

subtract 6x from both sides:

12x -8 = 2

Add 8 to both sides:

12x = 10

Divide by 12 on both sides;

x = 10/12 = 5/6
