Im thinking of starting one of the two... What are the good and bad points of each. Has anyone out there tried either of them, or both?

I've tried both Mary Kay and Avon products and I am now an Avon rep. Why? An Avon business you can start for just $10 whereas Mary Kay is much more. There is no inventory to keep with Avon but Mary Kay pushes keeping inventory. With Avon you don't have to do parties and it sells anywhere but Mary Kay sells best AT parties. I'm not sure if every Avon district is like mine....but I have met the most wonderful and friendly women who just want me to succeed. Since I have not been a Mary Kay rep, I cannot comment on this subject for them.

Avon sells much more than just makeup. They also sell holiday items, women's accessories, children's items, lingerie, clothes, shoes, etc.

Avon. Avon actually has three different line, oirignal Avon which is comperable to drug store brands, Mark which is for teens, and they have a newer line which is more high end. Yes MK makes good products, but they are also very expensive, and many people cannot afford MK. Second of all in many areas the market is flooded with MK reps, and when you go out to do warm chatter most people you talk to have a rep. Also MK requires that you keep a huge inventory and and you have to spend at least $200 each campaign. I have tried to be a MK rep twice, and lost a lot of money. The only real way you make money in MK is by recruting.

I have been an Avon rep for over a year now. Avon does not require a huge inventory, and you make money even if you do not recruit people. I have had no problem getting customers, as soon as people find out i sell they ask for a catalog. Also, with Avon shipping is free, with MK you have to pay for shipping unless you live near a distribution center and can pick it up.

AVON, AVON AVON! I love being an AVON rep, not only can you sell the AVON line which carries, health welness items, clothing, the cutest flip flops lol, make up, nailwear, skin care, gifts, kids toys, breast cancer awerness items, speak out agianst domestic violance, collectables, holiday items, and they are adding! but AVON also has another WONDERFUL line called MARK geared towards younger people, you can see MARK adds in LUCKY magazine. AVON has been right up there with the latest breakthroughs in skin care technology, and has made some major breakthroughs just within this year. also, AVON was one of the first direct sales compmanies, it was started before mark kay.AND AVON gives out many prizes and awards all throughout the year, and anyone is elagiable to recieve them, even if you just started, unlike with marykay, you have to have sold so much and such, avon is only 10 dollars to start up, and you will make so many friends, and as my fellow avon ladies have said, no need for parties, AVON SELLS ITS SELF!

If you are talking about using products...

I will get some of both. Avon is a lot less $ than Mary Kay, but a lot of times I like what Mary Kay has better. Plus, I like MK's system. How I can put my lipstick in my mini makeup case. I tend to like to colors of MK better than most colors of Avon. I have a coworker that is selling Avon right now, and I will occasionally order from her. Things like eyemake-up remover I will order from Avon because it is more $ at MK and the Avon works just as good. I tend to really like the MK perfumes better too. Journey is one of my favs.

If you are talking about selling...

Both have their benefits. MK probably sells better, since it seems most of your answers as far as wearing products were for MK. But you have to pruchase a min. amount of make-up to keep in inventory with MK and that can be a big startup cost. Avon is less expensive to start, but you may not sell as much. It depends on why you want to get into it. If you are just looking to get a discount on the products or if you are trying to make $. You'll probably make more $ with MK since it is more expensive.

Mary Kay has nice stuff and so does Avon. But when it comes to cost, majority of women will buy Avon not only b'cause its affordable but b'cause they also sell clothes, jewelry, and just about everything else but the kitchen sink.!

It depends who likes what, but i think you would do better with MK but it is alot of work. just my opinion. I became a consultant just so i can get my MK 1/2 price, i buy like $400.00 worth and only pay $200.00. i get it for my mother in law & my mom. LOVE IT, GOOD STUFF.
