ok so sum one please explain the rules for a equation like this:

-3s = -51

what is s? how can i figure it out? thanks

i sorta need help still. How would I do these ones?

3p - (-7) = 52

24 + m = -93

and

r/4 -12 = -14

subtracting a - number means you add it
so 3p+7=52
isolate your variable by subtracting
so 3p=52-7
3p=45
divide to get p 45/3
p=15


24+m= -93
isolate the variable by subtracting
m= -93 - 24
solve for m
m= -117

r/4 -12= -14
isolate the variable
r/4 = -14+12
r/4=2
solve for r by multiplying
r=2x4
r=8

the "s" is just a variable, it might not stand for anything. Usually problems will use an X, Y, or Z, but any letter can be used. It's the answer you're trying to figure out...what does it equal?

To do this equation you want to get the variable (s) by itself to find out what s=.

So for this problem you would first divide negative three from both sides (remember, whatever you do to one side, you have to do to the other!). So your answer would be:

s=(whatever 51 divided by -3 is)
