I think this life-affecting question is too important for a free URL with dummies answering. I would recommend talking to a college counselor, or maybe a good attorney. In some states, it is possible to clear your record after a time, but that may be a long time.

Clearly, there are jobs such as attorneys where convicted felons are prohibited. But, there may be others where it is possible after a long time of clearing your record. But, you need REAL advice, and here you are getting good guesses - or bad guesses.

If you are male, there are other issues. Many college grad jobs that look tempting are actually unavailable to men. The large corps hire only women for many jobs, such as ordinary accounting jobs; etc. If you have a career in mind, go to an office where they use that job, and if it is all women, except maybe one or two men who look as if they are probably wearing pink lacy underwear, DON'T STUDY THAT MAJOR!

Sorry to hear you made a really stupid decision at age 18. That is a long time to pay for one stupid decision, and I hate to hear such stories.

Edit: one way to clear your record is to prove you are rehabilitated. Obtaining a college degree is one sign you are rehabilitated if you have no more misbehavior. Note that in some states, it is possible to receive a pardon or a reinstatement of your rights to vote, etx.

I assume you realize you gotta' be squeaky clean, right?

Let's see. Get a college degree and have a felony conviction or no degree and a felony conviction. Which is more likely to get you a good job?

Stay in school, or at least get some technical training. We can always use good plumbers, electricians, carpenters and mechanics.

Otherwise, learn to say 'Do you want fries with that?'

Why do you keep asking this? Are you looking for a reason to just give up?

I'm sure a felon with a college degree will fare a lot better in the real world than a felon without a degree.

Listen it is easier to get a job with a college degree, (by the way, most employers are requiring some college just to fill out application), but most of all, we all screw up at least 1 time in our lives and employers know this. So keep going to college, and continue succeeding at life, b/c life is hard enough w/o making it harder.

Unless you want to quit, then quit, but you would be copping out. I regret not going to college. As a saying I learned in the Army, "you are going to be smart or you are going to be strong" its your choice. I chose to be strong, and regretted it ever since.

Lets think about this....dumb *** kid commits felony...goes thru that and gets accepted in college....4 years later thinks about his mis behavior and wants to quit life....FOR WHAT..pray tell!!!!!!!!!!!

DEMONSTRATE YOUR CONTINUED PERSONAL REHABILITATION AND REAP THE REWARDS!!!! DON'T CONTINUE MAKING THE wrong decision!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GOOD LUCK....lucky!
