Remember back in the 80's and early 90's when black artists like Janet Jackson, Vanessa Williams, Neneh Cherry, D-Mob, and others made fun, cutting edge, creative music and music videos? These days it pretty much just a half-naked girl and a hip-hip beat with some rapper in the background saying "yeah - yeah - yeah." Can't today's black artists do any better than this?

Well it's not everyone's fault (i dont not like saying black people, makes me feel uncomfortable even though im asian) because there are also the producers fault cause they make up the songs etc....and today everyone's just pretty much messed up...greedy,perverted...etc...

Anything on radio or tv right now is questionable as legitimate music. They have to appeal to mass audiences to make the label owners richer than rich and any sort of artistic integrity has been thrown out the window long ago. If you want to hear good R & B and rap music, stay away from the radio and MTV.

Oh, and by the way--"black music?" You really are stuck in 1981.

First, I have to agree with what some of the others have said - it's not "black" music, necessarily. There are plenty of white people recording really bad music lately too. You can't blame the artists or the producers (as much as I'd like to). They will only sell what the public will buy, so it's US as consumers that are causing the problem.

I also have to agree - the best black musician ever was Jimi Hendrix. Unfortunately, he died before I was old enough to appreciate him. So, I'll settle for the best thing since Jimi...Lenny Kravitz.

U don't have to say BLACK MUSIC. Music is music. If u are relating to rap music, it's not bad it's just the way u look at it. And I know u listen and watch it because u asked a dumb question like that. Nobody didn't say nothing when Jessica Simpson did that video about the boots. And she was have naked. Think about what u are saying.

All "black" music isn't bad. There are plenty of noteworthy Hip Hop/R&B artists out there: Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Mos Def, Common to name a few. A lot of the bad stuff is just what's popular now.

And just so you know rock/pop artists have half-naked girls dancing in their videos too. And all genres of music put out "bad" music.

although i agree with you to an extent, it's not just black artist, it's music in general. hell, take it a few steps further, it's entertainment in general that has turned bad, mindless and generic. music, t.v., movies, etc. that's not to say there isn't good entertainment out there, but mainstream stuff is usually the worst. if you want to find good black artist, you need to search a little harder than simply just turning on you radio. try going to jazz concerts, listening to local college stations, look through papers like the l.a. weekly, or the equivalent to that from whatever area your from.
i think the bottom line is that people are fed, brainwashed if you will, to believe that whatever is played on the radio is good. but the fact of the matter is most of it is crap.

Black music? GIve me a break! Are you seriously calling hip hop, and rap "black music"? Such generalizations have kept our race relations where they are today. Did you know that their are "black people" who perform and listen to opera, country, jazz, funk, gospel, and all of the other genres of music. Todays black artists are doing better than what you think, you just need to broaden your base of the music you are listening to. I agree, there is a lot of "crap for music" being released these days, but geez, let's give credit to all the black artists who are putting out quality music. This new generation is putting out a lot of music,in a lot of different colors, that I wouldn't pay 2cents to listen to. Let's not generalize and call it "black music".

The only good black artist that I can think of is Jimi Hendrix. Anyone can scream vulgarity. Anyone can have a dj play mixes for them. Anyone can moan and scream. Jimi could actually play a musical instrument.
