Why are you asking and/or listening to what everyone else says?
Your fiance and you should just make your reservations before even discussing it with others. Make up your mind what the two of you want and just do it. When others ask why you you chose that location/caterer/photographer, etc., Your answer should be "My fiance and I discussed it, and this is what we wanted for our wedding, We have already made our reservations and paid the deposit and I am sure that everything will be perfect for the wedding!".
My mother tried to have my wedding dress altered to the way she wanted it. I told the employees at the bridal shop that I would not pay for the dress if they altered it in any way that I did not approve of. Guess what? I got the dress the way I wanted it, and of course the bridal shop got paid!

What I say to EVERYONE is that, if, at any point, you think about eloping, you just should. The best part of my wedding, was where we got in the car after, looked at each other and said 'We should have eloped!' in unison. You elope, you piss off some people, they bring it up a lot. You have a ***tty wedding, you remember it long after people forget it. It really comes down the fact that you deserve to have a peaceful ceremony, everything you and your woman want. No interference, no drama, no wretched memories. Congrats, and bless you Righteous...

I would like to elope to some small chapel and have a small, private honeymoon. I don't think large weddings are worth the price since so many end in divorce anyway. I would rather save the money for a nice trip later.

You must remember this is YOUR special day! What the two of you want is the MOST important! My husband and I got married on the beach in Jamaica. We didn't elope but neither of our parents were able to attend. We both had been previously married so we felt we should do what made us the happiest! Our parents agreed! We had beautiful pictures taken and also had a video of the wedding! If you choose to get married at a resort they have coordinators to take care of everything so you don't have to!

I think you should give her the wedding she wants - IF she wants a wedding. Me and my husband eloped and I really regret it. I wanted a wedding but I wasn't patient. Families do tend to act crazy when planning a wedding but you should tell them to step back and that you're going to do what YOU want to do. But if you and your girlfriend seriously don't want to have a wedding at all and she knows that she won't regret not having one, then you should elope.

I ended up having a private wedding (about 15 people including myself, husband, best man, maitron of honor and flower girl). It was very untraditional, but I did it the way I wanted and only gave a weeks notice to everyone involved so I didn't have to deal w/ the crap. (Had already called off my first wedding date b/c I was so tired of all the bs from everyone else). It worked out very well, and was pretty much stress free! Also, only spent $200 total on the wedding! I still am proud of myself for putting it together!

We had a huge traditional wedding that neither of us wanted or enjoyed. If I had to do it all over again I would definitely elope. My husband feels the same way.

Elope. It's much easier. And cheaper.
Both me and my sister eloped. That was just fine with my mom. Some people won't understand it. Why do you need a big party for everyone? And your too stressed to enjoy it anyways. I had sort of a reception a few weeks later. We got together and had a big picnic anyone that wanted to come was welcome. There was no stress involved just a great time.

It's really your call my first wedding to my ex husband, we eloped but it was just family only and we divorced. my second wedding which I am planning is a formal deal minus a few of the high expenses.

I'd rather have a sort of private wedding where only immediate families and closest friends are in attendance. Elopement is a tempting idea but I would still wish the presence of my family during my special day.
Just remember that this day is for the two of you. Those whom you invite are invited to witness YOUR day, how ever you two want to celebrate it. You shouldn't have to try to conform the plans to please everyone else.
